Each year, to promote, encourage and support cave exploration within the Peak District, we give away some equipment to the cavers and divers who discover the most new cave at a single site.

For 2011 we pledged one metre of Beal 10mm Antipodes Caving Rope per metre of new cave discovered (up to 200m) to the caver or team who find the most new cave from a single non-diving dig site, and the same for the diver or team who find the most new cave from a single dive site, in or beyond a sump impassible to non-divers.

2011 DISCOVERIES:-

THE BACKWATER:
This significant breakthrough in Speedwell Cavern realised approximately 100m of large passage and a 30m aven through two boulder chokes. The limit of exploration is a third choke that is currently putting up a fight. 2012 could well see further discoveries here.

LUMBAGO WALK SERIES:
A pumping project close to the entrance of Peak Cavern revealed approximately 100m of passage leading to a sump. The sump has been dived for approximately 50m with the way on still open. So, based upon "Rule 8" the "Lumbago Walk Team" have won, although the final length of the discovery has yet to be confirmed. No separate diving discoveries were submitted.

Full details of these discoveries and other caving news is published on the Peak District Caving information site

The award for 2012 has yet to be decided upon.
