There are a whole load of different GPS receivers available from a number of different manufacturers. Adverts are designed to promote products so never highlight the negative points. Published specifications are generally derived from tests in optimum conditions and can differ greatly in real use. Touch-screens seem like a good idea, but can you use them in the rain or with gloves on? On board OS mapping sound like an excellent idea but is it? Is it really worth having on board maps at all? Are sunlight readable screens really readable in sunlight? The information here is based upon our extensive use of almost every Garmin GPS since they first entered the outdoor market with the GPS40 in 1993 right up to the present day with receivers like the GPSmap 62s and Oregon.
