Water purification and filtration systems are precautionary and DO NOT provide a 100% safeguard against infection or poisoning. However, if the correct type is selected for the environment you are going to be in, and you use them correctly, they can be highly effective. The "" and "" bullet points should only be treated as a very rough guide. Always study the manufacturers specifications, instructions and test information in detail.
Cryptosporidium:A waterborne micro-organism (protozoa) that causes gastrointestinal illness including diarrhea and vomiting. Found in surface water sources like rivers, reservoirs, lakes and ponds.
Giardia:Giardia lamblia: A microorganism (protozoa), sometimes found in drinking water, which can cause diarrhea, cramps, and illness. Found in surface water sources like rivers, reservoirs, lakes and ponds.
Virus:Extremely tiny micro-organisms, often pathogenic, that reproduce within the cells of a host organism. Viruses are usually found in human and animal waste and are spread through contaminated water.
Bacteria:A Single-cell organism with no nucleus. Found in all living things and in all environments, some causing disease.
Parasite:An organism that lives on, or in, another "host" organism.
Pathogen:Organisms that trigger acute or chronic disease. Bacteria, viruses, and parasites are common pathogens.
Protozoa:Single cell organisms with a neuclius often found in water. Protozoa may be parasitic and some, like Giardia and Cryptosporidium, are pathogenic.
Particulates:Small, solid particles suspended in water.
Effective:Means something has an effect, but not necessarily 100%
