It is supplied with 4 2450mAh NiMh batteries which take just over an hour to charge from flat. The red LED's on the charger go out once charging is complete and there is no problem with regard to top-up charging. This charging / battery set-up would be our recommendation for use with the Duo. A full charge will provide enough light for an 8+ caving trip and 4 AA alkalines or another set of rechargeables can be carried as a back-up.
